I feel like I just moved out of my parents house for the first time. Today I moved JasonFord1.com from wordpress.com to hosting it myself. This means that I am renting server space, doing coding, and all around getting dirty in messy computer stuff. It is just past 3:00am here in Indiana and I’m all tuckered out. I didn’t want to go to bed until I had a solid framework in place and I think I have one. Some parts of transferring the website were easy (installing wordpress on the server) while other parts were incredibly tricky (everything else after wordpress was installed). If you have any hints or tips for me about striking it out on my own here on the world wide web I’d be happy to hear from you. I haven’t taken programming since high school so I’ve been relearning a lot in the last four hours.
Here are the things I’ve done in the last four hours. What more do I need to setup or what extras do you suggest I install?
Am I missing anything important? I know there are techies far smarter than me reading. How can I pimp this thing to be even cooler?

UPDATE: It is now 4:20am and after teaching myself CSS I was able to add a HOT (in my humble opinion) header image and tweak the placement of the search bar (see up in the header on the right hand side). OK, I am definitely going to stop fiddling now and get some rest!

I did something really cool today and I am completely bummed I didn’t have a camera to capture it. Today I hugged a windmill. We have a huge wind farm here in Indiana off I-65 about fifteen minutes north of the Purdue University campus. I always gawk at the wind farm in awe every time I pass by so this time rather than look from afar I decided to see how close I could get to the actual windmills. It turns out there are no fences or barricades and you can drive right up to them. Way cool! My inner environmentalist and I shared a very warm heartfelt moment today.
In other news, one of my fellow entrepreneurship students was on the ABC television show Shark Tank last week. I won’t spoil the result for you but I’ll give you a link so you can see for yourself. Go here (links to Hulu)… http://bit.ly/5eKXF. If you don’t want to watch the whole show he is the last one to present so fast forward to the second to last dot on the timeline and you’ll be two minutes or so from his part. Sawyer is a senior this year here at Purdue and invented a soy based version of play doh which due to trademark reasons he calls Soy-yer Dough. He is located at http://www.soy-yer.com/. I wish him nothing but the best. He has always been a pleasure to interact with the two times we have bumped into each other.
Lastly, a quick update on the Route 66 Challenge. Tesla is officially out and doesn’t want to chat with us. It’s a bummer, but the team and I are still brainstorming ways to come out on top by having an electric road trip of some sorts. We are currently working on a full update letter which will be published to the Route 66 Challenge community sometime by the end of the month.
Ok, I have to stop writing and go to work now on a project that brings actual money in to pay the bills. I’m a little behind on saving enough money for next months rent if I don’t get my butt in gear soon. Why are all my projects always pro-bono? I need help with that…
